Veteran Defender Added To The Roster
The Harrisburg Heat are pleased to announce that they have signed veteran defender Onua Obasi. Per team and league policies, financials terms of the agreements are not disclosed.
Onua Obasi has established himself as a quality professional soccer player in both the indoor and outdoor game. Obasi has played six seasons in the indoor game playing for the Baltimore Blast, Utica City FC and the Ontario Fury. Obasi also played in the USL outdoor league with the Rochester Rhinos and Ottawa Fury. Onua Obasi has won championships in both indoor and outdoor soccer. Obasi’s Baltimore Blast team won the MASL championship in 2016 while his Rochester Rhinos team won the USL championship in 2015.
Harrisburg Head Coach and General Manager Pat Healey is excited about signing Onus Obasi. Healey said: “Onua is one of the most skilled players in the MASL. He brings a quiet confidence to the field and his team. He is a player that has won in this league and will show that experience in the close games. This season, I look forward to him returning to be one of the top defenders in the MASL.”
“I am very excited to play for the Harrisburg Heat this coming season!” said Obasi. “Pat Healey was my captain when we won the MASL in 2016 and he has shown himself to be one of the smartest tactical minds in the league as a coach. I look forward to learning from him and the team. I think my skill set can help us be even more competitive this year and turn some of those close games into wins.”
The MASL stretches across North America with teams in the United States and Mexico. The Harrisburg Heat begin their season on the road in Utica on December 2.
The Heat home opener is Saturday, December 9 at 7:05 PM against the Kansas City Comets. All home games are played at the Equine Arena in the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex. For ticket information, please contact the Heat at tickets@harrisburgheat.com.
