The Harrisburg Heat have re-signed veteran Lucio Gonzaga for the 2017-2018 MASL season. Last season with the Heat, Gonzaga played in 19 regular season games. He had 5 assists and scored 24 points, including three game winning goals.

Gonzaga, a São Paolo native, spent the early days of his professional career playing in Brazil and Uruguay for RC Montevideo, Araxá, Rio Branco Andradas and São Caetano. He began his soccer career in the United States in 2007 with the Baltimore Blast. After playing for the New Jersey Ironmen of the Xtreme Soccer League for a year, Gonzaga returned to the MASL in 2009. When the Heat first signed Gonzaga in 2015, he was ranked 21st on the Baltimore Blast All Time Roster with 211 points. Gonzaga has proven an asset to the Heat over the past few seasons.

The Heat experienced one of the greatest resurrections in sports last season, going to the playoffs after a 16-year drought and one win the prior year. Additionally, the franchise received numerous awards including Coach of Year for Denison Cabral, Defender of Year for Stephen Basso, Rookie First Team for Thiago Freitas, and Organization of Year.

“Last season was amazing, but we have big plans for this year” said GM and CEO Delmont. “With the League growing and other teams adding more depth and experience, we are focused on building a team to be successful for years.”

Per team and League policies, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
