The Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) announced today that the following players were named to the Team of the Week for the Opening Week of the MASL’s 2018-2019 season.

Players named to the Team of the Week will be eligible for the Week One Player of the Week award. The Player of the Week is voted on by a combination of fans and the member teams of the MASL.

GOALKEEPER:

Chris Toth (Ontario Fury) – He may be wearing a different uniform, but the defending Goalkeeper of the Year looked just as good as ever in the nets for the Ontario Fury. Facing 15 shots on goal, Toth was able to turn away all but two of them as Ontario took home the victory.

DEFENSE:

Ben Ramin (Utica City FC) – The season is only one week old, but Utica City FC and defender Ben Ramin came out of the gate on fire. On the road against Harrisburg, Ramin scored two goals, including the game winner, to help his team come from behind for the win. Then, the next night, Ramin added an assist to his account as he helped Utica City FC to a home opening win against the defending champions.

MIDFIELD:

Ian Bennett (Milwaukee Wave) – The veteran midfielder scored a combined 103 goals the past two seasons. After one week of the 2018-2019 season, he is on pace to blow those numbers out of the water. Against South Central division rivals, the Kansas City Comets, Bennett score four goals as the Wave earned a 10-6 home win.

FORWARD:

Slavisa Ubiparipovic (Utica City FC) – In his seventh season, the Bosnian native continues to shine in New York. In City’s two games over the weekend, Ubiparipovic scored a combined three goals and two assists. Against Baltimore, Ubiparipovic provided the pivotal assist on Darren Toby’s game-winning goal.

Nick Perera (Tacoma Stars) – Perera has found a home in the Pacific Northwest. After finishing the season on a tear for the Tacoma Stars, Perera picked up right where he left off. His hat trick was his fourth since joining the Stars in the middle of the 2017-2018 season. He also added four assists to his portfolio, giving him a seven point night.

Adrien Perez (Ontario Fury) – Adrien Perez set the tempo for the rest of the league. On the league’s opening night, Perez had already completed his first hat trick before the second quarter was even a minute old. He added two more on the night for five total goals to start his season.

HONORABLE MENTION:

Rainer Hauss (Orlando SeaWolves), Danny Waltman (Tacoma Stars), Diego Reynoso (Monterrey Flash), Andrew Coughlin (Utica City FC), Bo Jelovac (Utica City FC), Guilherme Dos Santos (Florida Tropics), Jerjer Gibson (St Louis Ambush), Joey Tavernese (Utica City FC), Jonatas Melo (Baltimore Blast), Efrain Martinez (RGV Barracudas), Juan Carlos Gonzalez (Ontario Fury)
