The Heat announced today that they have signed a new Head Coach and General Manager as new ownership continues to rebuild the storied franchise.
Pat Healey was announced today as both Head Coach and GM after a successful career with the Baltimore Blast.
“I would like to thank Carl Delmont and the Harrisburg Heat organization for this tremendous opportunity,” said Healey. “I look forward to rebuilding this historic franchise both on and off the field”.
Healey also said he can’t wait to meet the fans and share his vision with them.
The league announced new divisions this week as well as new teams entering the MASL along with a longer season.
Heat CEO Carl Delmont said, “As the league continues to grow, I looked at numerous options for the Heat to prosper. Pat brings experience, coaching acumen, and shares the culture and character I want for our franchise.”
In addition to the new titles, Healey will also oversee camps, clinics and community involvement. His experience with the Defending Champions will benefit the players, sponsors, fans and community and he offered praise to his former employer.
“I would like to thank the Baltimore Blast for an amazing 10 years. The 5 Championships we accomplished in that time was truly incredible and I will always cherish those moments,” said Healey.
Baltimore Blast CEO Ed Hale attended the Press Conference offering support for both Pat and the Heat adding, “Pat Healey has been a captain of our team, defensive MVP of the league and a coach on the field while playing. He grew up in the Healey soccer family that is generations old and has a fiercely competitive nature with a keen soccer IQ.”
“Although he was under contract for another year, I gave him his release to pursue the next stage of his soccer career,” sale Hale. “This has been a tradition to assist players to move on after their playing days were over. A couple examples are PJ Wakefield and Lance Johnson,” added Hale.
Healey’s departure will leave the Blast with a defensive and leadership hole to fill. “We intend to do that ASAP, said Hale”.
Baltimore and Harrisburg are closely tied with many soccer legends playing for both teams and two former Heat standouts coaching Baltimore now.
Hale added, “We will miss Pat Healey, but wish him success in his new endeavors, except when he plays us”.
The Heat play in the MASL with the season starting in December and dates to be announced by the league soon.
