Basso Scores Final Goal

Ricardo Carvalho and Val Teixeira each had a hat trick for the Harrisburg Heat as they knocked off the visiting Syracuse Silver Knights 10-8. The Heat offense broke out in the 2nd half as they scored seven goals. Joey Tavernese led the way for the Silver Knights scoring five goals.

The game was scoreless until midway through the 1st period when Joey Tavernese scored for the Silver Knights. The Heat tied the game up three minutes later as captain Val Teixeira found the back of the net. Ricardo Carvalho put the Heat in the lead just thirty seconds later with what would be the first of his three goals. With time winding down in the period, Moises Gonzalez tied the game for Syracuse. The Heat saw goals from Brad Kerstetter and Carvalho in the 2nd period. Tavernese added two more goals for Syracuse in the 2nd to tie the game at 4-4 at halftime.

Harrisburg’s offense broke out in the 3rd period scoring four goals. The past two games, the Heat have struggled to score in the 2nd half. The Heat were more aggressive to start the half and the results proved that. Teixeira scored two goals in the period to complete his hat trick. Carvalho capped off his hat trick in the 3rd as well. Tom Mellor also scored for Harrisburg as they ended the period leading the Silver Knights 8-6.

Nine seconds into the 4th period, Lucio Gonzaga added to the lead as he continues to find the back of the net. Tavernese did all he could to keep his team in the game. He added two more goals in the final period. With the Heat up by one goal in the final minute, Syracuse decided to pull their goalie. Stephen Basso would score an empty net goal in the final seconds to seal the win for Harrisburg.

The Heat finished the game with 22 shots as the Silver Knight had 20 shots. Goalie Hugo DaSilva saved 12 shots compared to Andrew Coughlin’s 11 saves.

Harrisburg gets back to .500 with their victory tonight. Their record now sits at 3-3. The Heat are on the road next Friday, December 23rd as they take on the Syracuse Silver Knights.
